Title I

The Title I program began in 1965 as a federally funded program providing supplementary instruction in Reading and Math. Title I reading lessons support the teaching done in the classroom. The main goal is to give students added support, teaching and practice in a small group setting.  In addition, the groups are working as a cooperative team to build each other’s self- confidence. The St. Thomas More Title I reading program will be offered to all students Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.

Student’s enrollment in the Title I program will be based on the performance scores in the fall DIBELS Reading assessment. A score that is below benchmark indicates that special attention to the development of reading skills, in addition to classroom instructions, could improve fluency and word recognition.

Small group instruction will be given to Title I students according to grade level.  Evaluations of progress will be given quarterly throughout the year. Mrs. Macan, our Title I teacher, will keep you updated on progress of your child and their scores on the DIBELS assessment given in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Macan at any time with questions or concerns.
