Novel:  At the end of February, we will begin Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. The book takes place in the Ozark Mountains in Oklahoma during the 1920s.  It is a story of a boy and his unbreakable bond between his two red coonhound pups. A heartwarming story of loyalty, love, and loss.

Nonfiction: Students will read nonfiction articles on survivors of the Holocaust.  We will also focus on identifying the main idea by using key details to help us.  Besides this, we will be identifying facts/objective details and opinions/subjective details.

At the end of March the students will take a field trip to the Milwaukee Jewish Holocaust Museum.  They will get to hear a Holocaust survivor or a family member of a survivor speak. This is truly a powerful and inspiring field trip.
