Welcome to the home of the 2015-2016 winners of the Cardinal Daniel DiNardo Catholic Cup Championship! The St. Martha Catholic School Chess Program is one of the most popular extracurricular activities in the school and continues to grow and reflect our faith, sportsmanship and school spirit at home and at tournaments across Houston.
Chess is a magnificent game which can become a lifelong hobby, one that develops analytical, concentration, strategic thinking, communication and sportsmanship skills. The club exists to help, teach, and support different ranges of players, from those who are just beginning in chess, to advanced participants in tournaments.
Chess Club is open to students in grades 3-8. There are two sections: club and team. Our faculty sponsors are David Norman and Nancy Rubiano. It is our privilege to share this opportunity with our students!
Due to the limited number seats that will be open this year, slots will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis with a waiting list, if necessary.
Room: Chess club will meet in either the Borski room or the computer lab and our team will meet in either the Spanish room or the computer lab.
Volunteers: Volunteers are needed and welcome! Parents will be asked to supervise the children, play chess with them (if you know the rules) and asked to run any needed miscellaneous errands. All volunteers must be VIRTUS trained.
