Welcome to Music Class!
I am delighted to be back as general and choral music teacher at St. Luke School! A key focus of our music learning this year in all grades will be on Music for the Weekly Mass: How can we best give thanks to the Lord through the music of the liturgy? Through this work and our other class activities, we will learn to refine our performance of music, how to read and notate music, and how to understand and use musical terminology.   We will also listen to and broaden our understanding of the world's music, including classical, jazz, folk, and popular music.

UKULELES COME TO ST. LUKE'S MUSIC ROOM

Through a wonderful donation to the school through the PTO we now have 40 ukuleles in the classroom that students in all grades K-8 have opportunities to play and learn basic ukulele skills.  The ukulele is a wonderful instrument for children to learn since it teaches aural and rhythmic skills while also being a great supportive instrument to young people's singing.  The goal across all grades is to learn basic chords and how to use these chords at the correct times within songs of ever- increasing complexity.

PARENTS: WHAT'S YOUR MUSIC? Do you sing in a community choir or play in a band or other ensemble? Do you sing or play instruments for your church? Are you a professional musician (past or present) or even a fan of a particular style of music or artist? One of the wonderful things about music is that there are so many we can share it or perform it together no matter our age! We also share music on important days such as birthdays, holidays, or other celebrations.

If you would like to share a brief video of yourself singing, playing or talking about "your" music that we could show in a class, please email Mr. Tell!
