Information for Candidates & Parents

posted Aug 26, 2016, 11:59 AM by Sandra Rosellini

Dear Parents/Guardian,

Students in this year’s 6th grade, or any new student in 7th or 8th grade, may become National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) candidates. In order to become a member students must adhere to the following throughout the school year:

  1. A student must maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better, attend mandatory once per month meetings.
  2. A student must complete twenty-four hours of service, both in and out of school (12 each) and many members willingly earn well beyond the necessary number of hours.
  3. A candidate must receive final approval and recomendation of St. Linus faculty and staff.
  4. Throughout the entire school year a student must follow the NJHS requirements as they pertain to the pillars of service, citizenship, leadership, scholarship and character.

Students that do not follow the above, may be placed on probation, or not allowed to continue as a candidate. I am send this letter to let you know that if your child thinks they would like to become a member this year, the responsibility is on the student and they are expected to be good students with leadership quality able to adhere to the standards listed above.

Students may begin doing service during the summer (for example: summer camp), which many students have done so. More information will be given to students at the start of the 2016-17 school year.

I became moderator in August, at the beginning of this school year. It will take some time for me to get all the information organized, but I will do my best to keep all informed. There is more information regarding NJHS on the NJHS blog page. You can find the blog by going to the school website, clicking faculty, blogs, then scroll down to the NJHS blog.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at srosellini@stlinusschool.org

Sincerely,
Mrs. Rosellini
