2016 Letter from the Vicar

The Friends of Warkworth Church

The Vicarage, Dial Place, Warkworth, Morpeth, NE65 0UR

January 2016

Dear Friends

I am writing to you slightly earlier than usual and so feel able to start by wishing you all a very happy New Year; slightly late but sincerely meant all the same.

The main reason for writing earlier is that our dear friends the Webbers, Andy and his lovely wife Diana, are relocating to Derbyshire in the very near future to be nearer to their family. As you know Andy has headed up the ‘Friends of Warkworth Church’, and he wanted to leave his house in order and so here is our annual letter. Andy has now passed on his mantle to Mrs Ann McClement, who is another dedicated and hardworking member of our church family.

Church life has a momentum of its own and the seasons and feasts continue in an almost dizzying cycle. Each year brings its joys and sorrows, its problems and its wonderful surprises and good to say that God is there in them all and the great company of saints, headed in our case by St Lawrence, encourage us along our way.

This last year one of the highlights, as many of you will know, was our Magna Carta weekend which was held in June. It was in truth a community effort in which the Church played a significant part. It brought so many talents together and at the end of the three days we ended with a wonderful ecumenical service in St Lawrence Church with Sir Alan Beith giving the, ‘key note speech’ of the weekend!

However, THE event of the last year was the Ordination of our wonderful Curate, the Reverend Christine Shield. Many of you will know Christine. She is like Renaissance Woman as she has a huge range of gifts and talents which enrich our church family in wonderful ways. She is very able and is doing extremely well in her Diaconal year. However, on July 3rd this year we will be back at the cathedral for her Ordination to the Priesthood which will be another super occasion. Then the following Sunday, 10th July, Christine will celebrate her first Eucharist; a highlight in every priest’s life.

I would like to not only thank you all for your continued support but also to invite you to Christine’s first Eucharist which will be held at St Lawrence Church on Sunday 10th July at 9:30am and to join us afterwards for cake and fizz.

We continue to hold you all in our prayers and are thankful for yours.

This comes as ever with my sincere best wishes.

The Reverend Mike Dent                                                                                           PTO
