We are a Platinum school!

We've done it! We are delighted to announce that St. John's has become first school in the North Wealden area (Chailey, Crowborough, Heathfield, Uckfield and Wadhurst) to be awarded Platinum Award for the School Games Mark. This is a Government led awards scheme, launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver, gold and platinum levels of the Mark. If a school achieves Gold status for five consecutive years, they are eligible to apply for Platinum. To achieve Platinum, we had to meet all of the criteria for Gold then submit a detailed case study along with a supporting paragraph from our School Games Organiser, Mrs Virgo, on how we have used Year 5 and 6 to help run intra-school competitions. We are now exempt from next year’s School Games Mark award process and will automatically receive the Platinum Award again in 2019. We will also received a special plaque to commemorate their achievement in the Autumn Term.

The school has proved to excel at delivering high quality P.E, have good links with community clubs and raise standards of P.E by offering a range of sporting opportunities through the below levels of competition:

• Intra-school (Level 1) - sporting competition for all students in school through intra-school competition e.g. house competitions and sports day.
• Inter-school (Level 2) - individuals and teams are selected to represent their schools in local inter-school competitions e.g. the range of sporting events we offer within the Beacon cluster of primary schools.
• School Games Festivals (Level 3) – the county/area will stage multi-sport School Games Festivals as a culmination of year-round school sport competition e.g. the North Wealden area events where we have represented Beacon (Crowborough) against other North Wealden areas.

Thank you to all of the staff, children, parents and families for their continued commitment and enthusiasm in PE and Sport.

The School Games is based around 6 key values.

We encourage our children to follow these values, not only in sport, but in everything they do:
