Golden Sower Program

Dear Parents,

Our third year of the Golden Sower Program has continued to be a success!  We took six students on a bowling party!  They had a great time, and hopefully we can have even more students celebrate with us next year.  We thought we would take this time to give some final thoughts on the year and look forward to next year as well.

We still feel there were a lot of positive outcomes from this program, here are a few:

~ Reading books they might not have picked out for themselves..

~ Time management skills were needed in order to meet deadlines and requirements.

~ Students became aware of new authors and are even looking for more books by

that author.

~ Historical happenings that bring up discussions and questions.

The upcoming year will look a lot like it did last year.  The 3rd graders are not required to participate, although we will encourage them to read the Golden Sower nominees.  The 4th-6th graders are required to read 4 books throughout the year along with the 2 that will be read aloud in the classroom for a total of 6 reports.  For an additional challenge, students will need to read 8 out of the 9 books to get some type of party!  We will try to help students pace their books so there isn’t a panic when deadlines are approaching!  We will have 2 copies of each book at school.  The Clarkson Public Library was very helpful and had many of the books available.  There are many different options available to get the books.  A link with the list of books is below, along with a link on our website to fill out a summary form.  That way, students can get a start on reading this summer!

Please let us know if you have any suggestions or thoughts for us.  Reading is a wonderful gift and we want to make it as successful, meaningful, and enjoyable as possible!

Happy Reading, Mrs. Prokopec

  • Write a satisfactory report, using the report form

  • One report turned in each quarter

So you need to read a book and write a report on it each quarter for a total of 4 books and report on the two books your teacher reads to you for a total of 6 books.  All reports are to be turned in to your teacher.  These are the basic requirements for the 4th-6th grades.

Now for the EXTRA REWARD - any student who reads or listens to, and reports on 2 extra books, a total of 8 books, will be rewarded with an outing - to be announced later!!

The books you need to read are available at our school library and Clarkson Public Library.  The books you can read for this program are the 2017/2018 Golden Sowers listed on your report sheet.

Last day to turn in summaries will be TBD.  Remember “Reading helps you grow”!!

Now  - 3rd grade - you are not required to participate, although we encourage them to read the Golden Sowers books.  You will be required to write reports on the two books that the teacher reads to you.  You may also read and write a report on one of the  easier Golden Sower books that the school has ordered.  If you decide to read 5 more of the books, you will be able to go on the outing with the 4th- 6th!!
