Welcome to 1st Grade!

Welcome to 1st Grade. My name is Priscilla Engeldinger and I am the 1st Grade teacher at St. Joachim School. T
his is my fifth year teaching, and I am so excited to have another great year! This will be my third year in 1st grade, and I am so excited to begin a great year. I have learned so much over the past year and I am blessed with such a wonderful school community to help me continue my growth. I am a product of the Oakland Diocese, and I continued my education and graduated from California State University Northridge, and received my B.A. in Media Management. I also received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Chapman University.

This year we look forward to many exciting and challenging experiences. First grade is a particularly important year where the students grow and learn quite rapidly. Throughout the year they mature in so many ways! It is truly a blessing to teach 1st grade.

Some of the reading strategies that we will be focusing on are the following:

Writing-
Every Writing workshop session begins with
a mini-lesson about a skill and ends with student reflection and time to share. Students are introduced new skills during mini-lessons each day that help them to become better writers. Students keep a writing portfolio and are able to track their improvements throughout the year.
