Cisco Phone FAQ (UNDER RECONSTRUCTION 12/7-12/8)

NYU IT upgraded all Stern faculty, staff, and administrators to new Cisco IP phones in 2017.  This page provides answers to Frequently Asked Questions. Most request require your department's Communication Representative.  If you are not sure who your Communications Representative is, please contact the NYU IT Service Desk (x83333) to request their name.

How to request a new Cisco Phone installation?
For a new Cisco Phone installation, where there was no phone prior, please contact your department's Communication Representative to make the request and they will fill out a NYU IT ServiceLink Communication request form.

How to request a move of a Cisco Phone to another location?  
To request a move or re-location of an existing Cisco Phone to another location, please contact your department's Communication Representative to make the request and they will fill out a NYU IT ServiceLink Communication request form.

How to request a change of name associated with a Cisco Phone?  
To request a change of name associated with a Cisco Phone, please contact your department's Communication Representative to make the request and they will fill out a NYU IT ServiceLink Communication request form.

How can I forward my office phone calls to my another phone? 

FOR BOTH METHODS, forwarding continues to function even if Cisco Phone is removed or disconnected.

Method 1: (From your Cisco Phone to Cisco Phone)
To forward all calls from your office Cisco Phone to another office Cisco Phone, please review the ServiceLink KnowledgeBase article link below (relating to Cisco 8851 telephones). This method is to forward your Stern number to another Stern phone, NOT your smartphone.

Method 2: (From Cisco Phone to smartphone via Mobility) To forward all call from your office Cisco Phone to your cell/smartphone, please use the Cisco Mobility feature.  Mobility allows you to link your NYU telephone number with your cell phone number with extra options of setting times when to forward. You must have the Cisco Mobility feature administered by NYU IT. If you would like to have Cisco Mobility, contact your department's communications representative to have a request submitted to administer this feature for you.

How can receive and make phone calls from my desktop PC? 
NYU IT offers Cisco Jabber which is a softphone software that allows you to access presence, instant messaging (IM), voice, video, voice messaging, desktop sharing, and conferencing on computer and mobile devices.  You must have a Cisco Jabber account administered by NYU IT. If you would like to have Cisco Jabber, contact your department's communications representative to have a request submitted to administer this feature for you.

If you have forgotten or want to change the password (PIN) of your own voice mailbox, you can do so online via NYU IT Cisco Unity PCA page.

Will I still use my TARA CODE for long distance calls?
Seven-digit authorization codes (TARA codes) are no longer required when making domestic long distance or international calls from your NYU desk phone.
