Welcome to St. Edmund's Nutrition Challenge

(AFTER YOU READ ALL THIS AND WATCH THIS YEAR'S TASTE CHALLENGE BELOW, GO TO OUR VIDEO VAULT FOR A FEW VIDEOS FROM PAST YEARS...)

We haven't really gotten going yet, but before we start cooking, there are a few things we need to do:

1. Get those permission forms signed and returned!

2. Keep working in class on the basic components of nutrition (calories, fats, carbohydrates, proteins)

3. Analyze our own nutrition intake.

4. Think critically about the obesity epidemic in North America and decide where the blame should be shared ("Super Size Me" documentary).  Personal Responsibility vs Corporate Responsibility

We have made our cooking teams, and they were given a challenge to decide who would have FIRST CHOICE of their key ingredient for Iron Chef.  Want to see whose palette reigned supreme???  Watch below to see how it went!!! (about 12 very short videos) .

About The Iron Chef: St. Edmund's

In conjunction with our classroom unit on health and nutrition, we will be engaging the students in hands-on cooking opportunities.
St. Ed's has been fortunate enough to have hosted "Iron Chef:St. Edmund's" for six rewarding years!  Students are placed into groups and are given challenges such as..
A) Researching healthy recipes
B) Participating in taste challenges and appy cook-offs vs. other teams
C) Recording their own cooking television show
D) Designing a dining area, creating a healthy choices menu, and prepping their own kitchen (at school), and creating an award-winning original culinary experience, not only in the school, but also for the residents of Summerhill Retirement Centre, on-site!
