Meet the Teacher

Hi Everyone!

I thought that before parent teacher interviews I would post a little bit about me!

I am a Political Science and Education graduate and have been working towards my Bachelor or Science over the past two and a half years. I absolutely love teaching and this is my fifth year at St. Bonaventure's. Last year I taught Grade One and the two previous years I taught Grade 4. Prior to that I completed my internship teaching in Grade One, which would have been THIS exact group of students :)! I have also substituted in many different Grades and I have worked in IRT (one on one with students with various needs) at St. Andrews and Whitbourne Elementary. In addition to teaching in Canada, I have had the opportunity to teach in Laos with a Women's Empowerment program (WEP). While in Laos I also taught conversational classes with Novice Buddhist Monks. I think teaching is such a wonderful profession and I have loved every minute of it so far!

When I am not teaching I spend some of my time volunteering for organizations I feel passionate about. At St. Bonaventure's I have volunteered with the Gathering place and with the Cross Country team. I have also volunteered for the past five years with Big Brothers Big Sisters and I volunteer monthly with SWAP (a harm reduction program in NL). During my free time I also enjoy yoga, hiking, photography and running. In the winter I am a certified ski patroller with the Canadian Ski Patrol.

Whenever I have the opportunity, I also love to travel and I have had the privilege of visiting 36 countries. I have studied in both Switzerland and England, but I am happy to call NL my permanent home, as this is where my husband and my husky reside.

My goal for this year is to foster a love of learning in each of my students and to engage them with the curriculum. I intend to meet each of my students where they are and to help them grow into collaborative, well rounded, kind and happy students that are achieving their potential. I plan all of my lessons with cura personalis in mind, as I believe that caring for the whole child is the most important thing that a teacher can do. I value open communication, and I appreciate when parents address things with me directly.

I know that we will be working through many challenges this year together. There have been many changes in this last little while and I recognize that this has been a difficult time for many. This year will be a year of growth for each of us and its important that we communicate and collaborate in order to properly meet all of the students needs.

It is my intention to spend as much time as possible learning outside of the classroom this year. This will make it much easier for students to socially distance themselves and I think that it will be a great experience for all. I'm also extremely excited about exploring our outdoor classroom.

I look forward to meeting with all of you this year!
