August 3, 2015 (Denver) - The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) kicked off its 2015 Summer Planning Tour today in Burlington. The event was the first in a series of scheduled public planning sessions designed to engage with local communities, talk about the department’s work, and solicit feedback.

The Department’s Executive Director, Reggie Bicha, and members of the executive management team, began the tour in Kit Carson County by delivering a presentation on findings and trends in human services, and then posing questions to those in attendance to get feedback on the direction and delivery of human services. Topics of discussion included aging and adult services; child welfare programs; early childhood care and learning; economic security programs; behavioral health services; and data and performance measures. In addition to Burlington, the planning tour will go to Lamar, La Junta, Alamosa, and Durango, all in the first week of August.

“We see this as a great opportunity to get out, meet some of our clients around the state and get the feedback that is essential to ensuring the effective, efficient and elegant delivery of human and health services across Colorado,” Bicha said of the planning tour.

This is the fifth consecutive year that CDHS leadership has conducted summer tours throughout Colorado. The efforts have resulted in “collaboration between human services administrators and stakeholders, a more complete effort to plan strategically, and a more accurate course to achieve the Department’s goals for the future,” Bicha said.

The CDHS 2015 Summer Planning Tour and efforts to engage local communities and incorporate feedback into organizational planning is in keeping with the Colorado Department of Human Services’ mission: to design and deliver high quality human and health services that improve the safety, independence, and well-being of the people of Colorado.
