Best Interest Determination for Educational Stability
Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008 requires county departments of human or social services (child welfare agencies) to promote and work towards school stability for children and youth in foster care, in collaboration with schools and school districts. The law stresses the importance of remaining in the same school unless it is not in the best interests of the child or youth. This video was funded by the Administration for Children and Families as part of Colorado’s Education in Foster Care Demonstration Grant. This video highlights how child welfare agencies and schools/school districts can a engage in a collaborative process to make the best interest determination, who should be involved in the decision-making, and factors to consider.
