Meeting Mrs. ODell

"Hi,  just a few bits of information about me.  I am a Starmont graduate.  I live in Arlington with my husband, Gary.  We have two grown children and four wonderful grandchildren."

I earned  a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa with a major in middle school/junior high school education with an emphasis in English.  Later I  obtained my a special education endorsement from Upper Iowa University.
My first five years of teaching were at the Valley Community Schools of Clermont, Elgin, and Wadena.  I taught seventh grade language and reading.  After my children were born, we decided that I would be a "stay at home Mom," but I missed teaching so I became a  substitute teacher for the Valley Schools and Starmont Schools for a number of years.  The opportunity to be employed full-time arose so I became a paraprofessional.   I worked as a paraprofessional for thirteen years in the elementary and high school before becoming a special needs teacher first in the high school and then in the middle school.
Helping students become successful and proficient in the core curriculum areas is my major goal.  Comprehending what is read is crucial to being successful in our careers as students and  in our life's chosen career/careers.  Knowing how to communicate using good writing skills and learning math facts is also very important.  I strive to help my students become more successful in those areas.
