Stark County Music Calendar



JH & HS Chorus & JH Band Requirements:
  • All Stark County band & chorus students are required to attend a winter and spring concert. 
    These dates are tentatively set for Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 and Wednesday, May 10th, 2017.  Attendance is required as part of the student's grade for our class.  Anyone who misses a concert will be expected to complete a makeup assignment.
  • Chorus and band students in grades 9 through 12, and chorus students in grades 7 & 8 are also required to participate in a Lincoln Trail Conference festival.
    The LTC festival dates for this year are tentatively set for Tuesday, November 1st for HS chorus (at Cambridge), Monday, March 13th for HS band, and Thursday, March 23rd (at Cambridge) for 7th & 8th chorus. Attendance is required as part of the student's grade for our class.  Anyone who misses a festival will be expected to complete a makeup assignment.

    SCHS Music Theory/Appreciation Class

  • The fall semester of Music Theory will afford each student an opportunity to

    further their knowledge of music reading. Students will complete assignments in the fundamentals of

    written music, ear training, sight singing, piano skills and music composition. Grades will be based on

    homework, quizzes and tests.

  • The spring semester of Music Appreciation will further students’ knowledge of written music, while examining

    the musical styles and composers of different time periods throughout history. Grades will be based on

    homework, quizzes and tests.  This class is offered as a dual credit class with Black Hawk East.

Extracurricular opportunities:

    ILMEA Festivals

    Students who are involved in chorus and band have the opportunity to audition for ILMEA (Illinois Music Education Association) District choruses.  This is NOT required as part
    of our class, but is an extracurricular opportunity.  Extracurricular rules and eligibility apply to all participants in ILMEA festivals.
  • For 6th graders, this is a volunteer chorus festival.  The festival is Saturday, November 5th at Moline High School.
  • For 7th, 8th and 9th graders, chorus and band students will audition to secure their place in one of two junior level ILMEA choruses or the junior level band.  Auditions for these students are Saturday, October 1st in Geneseo.
  • For 10th, 11th and 12th graders, chorus students will audition to secure their place in the Senior Chorus of District 2, also auditioning on October 1st in Geneseo.  To help them prepare, these Senior Chorus students can attend a practice at Bradley University in September (date TBA).
  • All 7th through 12th graders who are selected for festival participation will attend the District 2 concert festival at Augustana College on Saturday, November 12th.
  • 11th and 12th grade students may be eligible for participation in the Illinois State Festival choruses in January if their audition in October ranks them high enough!
    Solo/Ensemble Contest

    Students who are involved in chorus have the opportunity to participate in solo/ensemble contest in the spring.  This is NOT required as part of our class, but is an extracurricular opportunity.  Extracurricular rules and eligibility apply to all contest participants.
  • 6th, 7th and 8th grade band and chorus students will be invited to participate in the solo/ensemble contest which we host on Friday, March 17th at SC Elementary school in Wyoming.  Events will run from about 4:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. that evening.
  • High School chorus students will have the opportunity to participate events at IHSA Solo/Ensemble contest on Saturday, March 4th, 2017
    SCHS Afternoon of Fine Arts

    High School art, band, chorus, speech and musical students will present our annual Afternoon of Fine Arts on Sunday, March 12th, 2017.  Performances from solo/ensemble events, speech team events and the upcoming musical will be included, and SCHS art students will display their work!

    Spring Musical

    Any student at Stark County High School is welcome to participate in the Spring musical.  Opportunities for involvement include cast and stage crew.  Extracurricular rules and eligibility apply to all members of our cast and crew.  This is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding extracurricular events offered at our school, so plan to     get involved!
  • This year's musical is set for April 6, 7, 8 & 9 2017.  
  • Auditions will be in January!
