Prepare an iron and verify it is safe to use and ready.
Western Union splice:
Desolder/solder a component without damage.
Return to 406 and in notes List the following:
10 terms relevant to soldering electronic components
10 different types of conductors
5 different types of solder AND the melting point for each.
The characteristics of a good solder connection versus a bad.
EMAIL SORENSON when complete for grade
You will locate online the NC advanced studies manual and download a copy to a computer or jump drive. YOu will print out the timeline and research a project that you can do your study on. Your project request is due TODAY.

* means this counts for a grade.
Electronics 2, first and second blocks:
Do the worksheet on soldering. Fill in the missing words and answer the questions. When finished you are to put the information from the worksheet on your website and send an email to : Bill.Sorenson@stanlycountyschools.org showing a link to your website.
This is a grade.
Electronics Advanced studies, second block

Electronics 1, third block and fourth block: NO COMPUTERS until finished with work., They are to write a newspaper article about an accident involving electricity. It can be real or something that they make up. It needs to be specific and include at least 125 words. Have fun with this assignment.
When sorenson returns, we will tour the two rooms and start our series on safety so that you can be in the lab As soon as possible.
Electronics II, 1st and 2nd Block
Go Over worksheet on soldering fumes and discuss terms.
ROHO solder (Lead Free)
Lead and the landfill
Silver solder and heat requirements for both
Using the following link, place solder guidelines in your notes.
Proper techniques for soldering:
Stripping wire with adjustables and 6 in 1's no wild hairs or nicks
Western union and pigtail splice lab, why tin splices
For a grade, all three labs. ALONE
Electronics I Safety and Intro to electricity GET the websites up FIRST.
Safety Test Link:
Video: What is electricity
3 Particles, PPT
Electrons, Neutrons, and Protons, what is an ION.
Safety terms and defs.
Safety lecture with human body resistance demo
Electronics II, 1st and 2nd
Meter Lab: Get a non working meter and repair it. Build the falling bomb project in the 300 and 1 kit and demonstrate for sorenson voltage measurements across 4 different components and resistance measurements across 4 different components. You will also demonstrate verifying continuity for a wire randomly selected by sorenson.
On your web page list the steps for repairing your meter and what equipment tools you needed.
On your web page list the setup steps for the meter you used and the model of the meter to measure volts DC and resistance.
Electronics I 3rd and 4th Block
Continue safety lecture from yesterday. Finish crossword if not done. Tour both classrooms and draw them locating all emergency equipment, major storage areas, and off limits areas. Also note on your drawing where all the tools of the trade are.
Over the weekend homework: Go home and take a look around and see if you can find anything that you deem unsafe. Write it down and bring it in monday for extra credit.
Fourth block will be setting up sound equipment and testing lights and smoke.
Electronics II, 1st and 2nd Block
Review sheets on Sine wave parameters to review.
BASIC Breadboarding skills lab: In groups of 2 ONLY, breadboard a series resistive circuit, solve for all parameters (like Series 1 on ETCAI), then measure.
**** instructor must approve wiring before powering up.
Draw the schematic for the circuit and describe on your website, how the trainer is connected.
Electronics I, 3rd and 4th Block
Review and Electronics Safety test. Minimum passing grade is 90%. Website notes may be used, hand written notes may be used.
GOOGLE and WIKIPEDIA are NOT allowed to be used.
Begin unit on Sources of electricity: 6 Sources of electricity and examples of each.
HOMEWORK: In groups of 2 students are to come up with a way to produce electromotive force (Voltage) with household and common items they bring in.
Advanced studies students should have turned in parental contract and product submission forms. Start working on your topic.
Generators and motors, commutators and slip rings, videos, go over classwork, project due friday
build a generator that produces measurable and verifiable energy.
Give lessons that they prepared on Wednesday during sub work
Generator lab and worksheets. Using internet or books find the unit test questions for the handouts on Motors and Generators.
Build your own. YOUR generators are due today. They must operate on the concept of electromagnetic induction and produce enough electricity (DC or AC) to light up an LED or a Light Bulb.
Penalty for not having materials is - 25% for this major grade
One more review presentation from students and then next door to lab for soldering lecture and demonstration.
