My classroom is registered at Adopt-A-Classroom.org if you are interested in making a donation to needed Science supplies.

Welcome to 8th Grade!!  My course expects students to be active learners.  Students will learn about Laboratory Safety and the Scientific Method.  This course will cover topics in Earth Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, and Biology.  Students will investigate the scientific realm of their world through projects, presentations, memorization, writing, reading, and labs.  Students’ mastery of this subject will be demonstrated through classwork, homework, labs, projects, quizzes, and tests throughout the year.  At the conclusion of this course, students will take the state produced End of Grade assessment (EOG).

Please be aware that I give extra credit homework just about EVERY night.  Some assignments will be very short while others may require up to 30 minutes completing.  I often suggest that a student read from their textbook or re-write their notes when they have “no homework”.  This gets them in the habit of reviewing Science each night.  Daily Extra Credit will be written on the board each morning.

First week of school documents coming home that pertain to this class:

-          Course Syllabus explaining my grading policy, content order, and classroom expectations (also posted on this website under class information)

-          Science Safety Contract (to be signed by both student and parent/guardians)

-          Multiple WSMS and Stanly County Schools forms that need to be signed and returned

Each student will be issued a textbook.  They are expected to bring this book to class each and every day.  Please be sure they keep up with this textbook as it is expensive.  Students must pay lost/damaged textbook fees before the end of the school year.

My planning period is the last block of the school day.  Therefore, please be aware that I usually do not check my e-mail until that time or later, depending on if I have meetings during my planning period.  This also pertains to voice messages.  I do my very best to read my e-mails and check voicemail before I leave each day.  I do respond back to parents in a timely manner when contacted, just usually not before lunch.  Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.

Required Daily Science Materials:  A  3-Ring Binder with 5 dividers, Loose leaf paper, Pencils, Pens, Metric Ruler, Agenda (can use the one WSMS provides for you), and Science textbook.

Much Needed Classroom Supplies:  Markers, Pencil Sharpeners, Metric Rulers, Poster boards, Tissues, color copy paper and Hand Sanitizer   DONATIONS OF ANY OF THESE ITEMS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I am looking forward to a great school year!
