We wanted to create an image of a moon shining down on the side of an island village. To do so, we created a scene with the ocean, the sky, an island, the moon, huts and a few trees. The water and sky are both planes with pictures color mapped to it. To simulate the ripples of the water, we used normal mapping. The moon is a sphere with an image of the moon’s surface mapped around it. We adjusted the lighting of the scene so that the light source is just before the moon, so that it simulates the moon’s glow. We used bright diffuse lighting and less specular and ambient light to convey the dimness of night. We read in object files for the huts and trees, downloaded from tf3dm.com. The island was downloaded from google sketch up and then manipulated with. All of these files went though some cleaning in meshlab.
