Newcomerstown High School has been awarded, for the fifth time and fourth year in a row, the State Superintendent's School of Promise Newcomerstown High School has been selected based on 2009-10 Ohio achievement test data and low-income data. The Schools of Promise program is designed to recognize and highlight schools with a high percentage of students achieving academic success where all populations of students are well served. NHS meets all criteria expected to be awarded this for the 3rd straight year in a row! NHS, and other high schools are awarded this by having at least 40% of the students are economically disadvantaged, adequate yearly progress made, graduation rate at least 85%, and student performance on the OGT’s for 10th graders was at least 75% and for 11th graders, 85% in reading and/or math (NHS did achieve BOTH).
