As an educator for the past twenty-seven years, I have served in mainly Title I schools. I have been a teacher, an educational diagnostician, a district curriculum coordinator, and a campus administrator.   I have seen the pendulum of educational pedagogy swing in both extremes more than once. Ultimately, I believe that most strategies can meet a student’s needs if the educator has enough passion for both the child and the practice to find ways to help students achieve.

I have spent my career learning and improving my practice.  Whether that is through membership in organizations like Learning Forward and ASCD, or through the pursuit of advanced degrees, I believe that to be an effective educator, one must be a lifelong learner.  One has to master the ability to learn before they can teach others to learn. To continue my learning, I am currently working on my doctoral degree in Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education at Texas Tech University.

I am fortunate to serve in an amazing district that recognizes the importance of allowing learning organizations to individualize to best meet the needs of their students and families.  I am in my sixth year as principal at Degan Elementary, a Title I school with sixty percent of its population receiving free or reduced lunch.  We became the first No Excuses University School, not only for the district but the first one in Denton County.  We believe that EVERY child should go to college if they choose, and we, as the adults, will not make excuses that get in their way.  

As a campus administrator, my priorities are always putting students' needs first, having grit and growth mindset, and being an advocate for Degan Elementary, Lewisville ISD, and public education. I believe education is the great equalizer and the way we continue to ensure a great society for all. 

We can, whenever and wherever we choose, successfully teach all children whose schooling is of interest to us.
