In September we began Fitness Gram testing for grades 3-5. This is a state mandated fitness test that is given to all students from 3rd thru 12th grades. We test aerobic capacity, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility. By the end of the school year, I will send home a Fitness Gram report card that gives parents information on their child's fitness level. The goal of the Fitness Gram is to promote regular, enjoyable physical activity for students, so that they can reach and maintain a level of physical fitness that will contribute to good health and well-being.

 The Jingle Bell Jog was held on December 16th. We worked on pacing and increasing our  cardiovascular endurance as well as goal setting. I am always so proud to see so many of my students improve their ability to jog as well as develop confidence during our training.  In late October we started collecting for Penny Friday. This is our community service project for the year. Every Friday we had 5th graders collect donations that went toward scholarships for 2 Marcus Cross Country runners.  We raised over $1700 this year!

Prairie Trail will once again participate in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program to encourage our students to make healthy food choices while staying active at least 60 minutes a day. Anyone may join the online program by creating an account at It is not mandatory to create an account, while we do encourage all of our students to participate in making good choices on the "fuel "they put into their bodies and staying active. We will be discussing good choices in our classes throughout the year. Prairie Trail has been an official Fuel Up to Play 60 school the last 2 years.
