Here is our April/May Newsletter! We have lots of stuff in such little time! Please make sure to subscribe to our calendar at http://bit.ly/choirdates on our website. You will always be up to date on our events!

Here we go…

High School Musical –

The choir will be performing this modern Disney Channel Musical along with the Advanced Theatre Arts classes.

Friday, April 26th – 7:30 pm

Saturday, April 27th – 2:00 pm

Entry $5.00 per person

Students will be assigned either Friday or Saturday performance.

A required rehearsal will be Wednesday, April 24th and

Thursday, April 25th depending on which cast they are in.

SPRING SHOW CONCERT –

All Choirs will be presenting “Icons and Legends” at our end of the year spring concert! You will be entertained by songs from your favorite icons and legends like The Beatles, Dolly Parton, and Aretha Franklin! Make sure to invite all the relatives out to this one! Hit’s going to be EPIC!

Friday, May 10th

7:30 pm to 8:30 pm (brief awards ceremony to follow)

Students need to arrive at 6:30 pm

All students will participate

SPRING SHOW REHEARSAL –

Students are required to attend this VERY important rehearsal for our Spring Show. We will be walking through the running order, as well as planning where each choir will be sitting. Thank you for understanding!!

SPRING SHOW FEATURED ACTS –

If your student would like to audition to be a featured Solo, Duet, or Trio in between the choir numbers for the Spring Show, we will have auditions next week. They MUST have it memorized and ready to perform.

January & February Choir Newsletter

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I’m so excited to get started with the New Year! We had such a successful first semester, and we are started into a BUSY contest season! Please read all of the information below, and please let me know if you have any questions.

5th Grade Visit to Lamar -

The 5th grade students will be visiting Lamar MS to begin the exciting time of choosing their electives for their 6th grade year! The current 6th grade choirs and the Cantori choir will be performing for the students.


Tuesday, January 15th (B-Day) - 9:15 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. Lamar Cafeteria

(Students will need to arrive at school by 8:15 a.m.)

6th grade will wear their choir t-shirts and jeans,

Cantori will wear their black dresses.

6th Grade LISD All-District Choir -

The 6th grade choir students have the opportunity to audition for the LISD All-District Choir! This a choir made up of the best 6th grade students from all of the middle schools in LISD. We are sending our best delegates to audition to perform in this honor choir!

AUDITION DATE: Saturday, February 23, 2019

(students will have short scheduled time from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM)

CLINIC DATE / CONCERT: Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Flower Mound High School (Leaving school around 1:00 pm)

ENTRIES DUE: Friday, January 25th to The Choir Room

(Contracts and $10.00 check to Lamar MS)

Ask your student for the information packet and contract!


KARAOKE NIGHT! -

Choir students will invite 2 non-choir Lamar MS friends to be their guests at this AWESOME Karaoke night. Students will have the opportunity to sing solos or in groups, ANY song they would like (That is school appropriate)!! Sign-ups are coming soon!!

Friday, January 25th - 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Lamar Middle School Cafeteria

Students will sign up to bring snacks, drinks, and desserts.

Pizza will also be served!

Pre-UIL Concert & Sight Reading Competition -

Cantori, Bel Canto, and the Men's Chorale choirs will perform for judges in order to receive comments and coaching. This will help these choirs prepare for the UIL competition in which students will receive scores, and hopefully a trophy!

Thursday, February, 21st, 4:30 pm – Downing Middle School

Students will ride a bus to Downing MS. Students will need to be picked up from Downing MS after their performance (time to come).


UIL Concert & Sight Reading Competition -

Cantori, Bel Canto, and the Men's Chorale choirs will perform for judges at the UIL Concert & Sight Reading Competition in which students will receive scores, and hopefully a trophy!

Thursday, February 28th & Friday, March 1st, During the school day

Lewisville High School, Times and specific dates will come soon

Students will only perform one of these days

Opera Field Trip (La Bohème) -

We are so please to make our yearly trip to the BEAUTIFUL Winspear Opera House to see the Dallas Opera's production of La Bohème! We ONLY have 40 tickets, so I will hand out the Field Trip forms on February 4th, and the first 35 (4 reserved for chaperones) to bring the forms back, will have a ticket reserved.

Wednesday, March 20th - $10.00 - We will meet in the Lamar Cafeteria at 5:30 pm and have a dinner before we leave at 6:00 pm in a school bus to the Winspear Opera House.

I can’t believe that it’s already December! Where has the time gone! The good news is, the Holiday break is right around the corner! Please read the newsletter closely because the next two weeks are busy!

· Main Event Holiday Choir Party! –

o We will PARTY and enjoy our fellow choir members!!

o Tuesday, December 4th – 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

o Arrive by 5:45 pm to receive game card and bowling shoes

o Main Event in Lewisville (2070 S. Stemmons Fwy, Lewisville, TX 75067)

o Sign Up is Closed

· Epic Waters Indoor Water Park Competition –

o This is a competition for the Cantori and Bel Canto girls’ choirs.

o Students will attend a competition at the Epic Waters Indoor Water Park in Grand Prairie. Then they will spend the rest of the day SWIMMING IN DECEMBER!!

o Extra Rehearsals on Monday, December 3rd and Wednesday, December 5th at 8:00 am.

o Friday, December 7th – 11:30 am – 7:00 pm

· Flower Mound Christmas Tree Lighting –

o All Choirs will be performing at the Flower Mound Christmas Tree Lighting at the Community Activity Center (CAC). This has been an awesome tradition that we have been a part of for the last 4 years. Even though this is not mandatory, if the student does not have a major conflict I will expect them to attend. I can’t wait for the tremendous community to hear the beautiful voices of our Longhorn Choir!

o Saturday, December 8th, Be there at 6:00 pm. Singing at 6:45 pm.

o Students will wear their choir t-shirt and jeans, with holiday FLAIR!

· Elementary Winter Tour –

o The Cantori Choir will visit Timber Creek and Prairie Trail Elementary schools to entertain the students along side the Lamar band and orchestra.

o Thursday, December 13th – 8:00 am to 3:30 pm

o The students from the Cantori Choir will be on the field trip all day, and will eat lunch at Cici’s Pizza.

o Students will wear their Choir t-shirt and jeans with Holiday Flair!

o Field Trip Form and info will be sent home on Monday.

· Longhorn Choir Winter Concert –

o All Longhorn Choir students will show off all of the hard work and beautiful voices that they have been working on all year.

o Friday, December 14th – 7:30 pm at the Marcus High School Auditorium.

o Students need to arrive at 6:00 pm.

o 7th & 8th grade students will wear their formal uniforms (Black dresses for ladies, Black Shirts and Pants for men).

o 6th grade students will wear their Choir T-Shirt and jeans. I do not have extra t-shirts, so please make sure those are located before the day of the concert. Thanks!

o See Handbook for specific uniform requirements.

o This is a required and graded event.

WOO! That is A LOT! I hope you are still reading!! Just a couple more house keeping things…

· Assignments/Grades –

o Please encourage your student to complete their assignments before the due date.

o I assure you, I only create assignments that are essential to your child’s learning. I give at least one week for assignments to be completed.

o There are MANY incomplete assignments on Canvas. If the students do not complete their assignments, it is very difficult for me to guide the lessons in the future.

· iPads For Class –

o I have a request…Students have been increasingly coming to school without their iPads, or their iPads not charged. I can’t speak for other teachers, but I use the student’s iPad every day. Students without their iPads may miss some learning. I try to provide paper copies of music, but I would prefer the students to use their iPads to access the most up to date lessons and music.

· Canvas –

o Don’t forget to “Pair” with your student’s Canvas! Here is a GREAT resource for learning how to do that. https://sites.google.com/staff.lisd.net/canvasinlewisvilleisd/home

o Remember, we have many assignments that are due on Canvas. Some students are having trouble remembering to do their homework. If you pair to your student’s Canvas, you can help them keep track of assignments.

· Chaperones –

We have so many FUN and EXITING things coming up for the next 2 months that I wanted to go ahead and put them together so you can be well informed!

· Fall Choir Breakfast

o Students are invited to a choir breakfast in the Choir Room!! Students will bring a breakfast item to share with others, while they get to know each other and make a life-long choir bond!

o 6th Grade Breakfast – Thursday, November 15th at 8:00 am

o 7th & 8th Grade Breakfast – Friday, November 16th at 8:00 am

· Epic Waters Indoor Water Park Competition –

o This is a competition for the Cantori and Bel Canto girls’ choirs.

Hello Longhorn Choir Family!!

I’m excited about all of the exciting events happening in October!! We have many things going on, so I will try to stick to the facts and be brief.

  • Marcus Homecoming Carnival –

October 3rd, Wednesday – 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

We will have a karaoke booth!

I have a couple of kids already signed up to volunteer.

Make sure you stop by and sing your heart out!

  • Demonstration Concert (6thGrade)

October 11th, Thursday – 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Lamar Cafeteria

Students need to arrive at 6:00 pm

The 6th Grade choirs will be demonstrating what they have been learning throughout the year in their first concert of the year. This is the first of 4 required concerts of the year. If for some reason there is a schedule conflict, please let me know as soon as possible. Your student will need to do a make up assignment. They will wear their choir uniform which is their choir t-shirt and jeans. See our handbook for specifics.

  • Cluster Concert (7th& 8thGrade) –

October 16th, Tuesday – 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Students to Arrive at 6:30 pm

At the First Baptist Church, Lewisville

(1251 W. Valley Ridge Blvd., Lewisville, TX 75077)

The Lamar, Briarhill, and Downing Middle School Choirs will join the Marcus High School Choir in a cluster choir concert. Please join us in this epic event at the First Baptist Church in Lewisville! Students will wear their formal uniforms. See our handbook for specifics.

The students will be taking a field trip the day of the concert, October 16th, to rehearse at the FBC Lewisville. We will be leaving the school at 9:15 am and returning at 11:40 pm (this is an 8-period day). They will eat lunch when they return to school. Students will need to wear their NEW choir t-shirt that I will be giving out soon. Students received their Field Trip Form on Monday. Please make sure to sign that and return it as soon as possible.

  • All Region Auditions –

October 20th, Saturday – Assigned Times

If your student has signed up for All Region Honor Choir Auditions, you will receive an email with the student’s block of time for their auditions. Please make sure your student is rehearsing their music.

  • Fundraiser Kick-Off –

October 22nd, Monday – During Class

I am SO excited to kick off our Popcorn Fundraiser!! We are going to raise funds for new choir chairs!! We have chairs that are original to the school. Be looking for students to bring home all of the info on the 22nd. There will be a $50.00 first day incentive, so I hope the kids get excited about this!!

  • Note About School Work –

In order to continually assess the students’ knowledge of sight reading, the students have a weekly sight reading recording. It is very short, and all of the students now know how to turn in their recording on Canvas. Please remind your student to complete their assignment every week. Also, please make sure to sign on to your student’s Canvas to monitor their school work. Learn how to HERE!

WHY CHOIR? Find out here!

August/September/October Newsletter -

Hello, CHOIR FAMILY!! I’m so excited about this school year!! The kids sound AMAZING, and I can’t wait to dig into our songs!

If you are new to our Longhorn Choir Family, I want to say…HELLO, and WELCOME! Welcome to our awesome world of singing! If you are a returning parent…HELLO, and WELCOME BACK! We have so many exciting things happening this year. If you ever need information all you need to do is go to our website LamarSings.org, and you will find all the answers you need.

This is the first of many newsletters you will receive. I try to keep you as informed as possible! So, Please save my email address in your safe list, and make sure that it doesn’t go to spam. So here are some important dates coming up.

Choir Parent Meeting & Cake Social –

Wednesday, August 22nd 6:00 – 6:30 in the Lamar Cafeteria

Please join us for a VERY brief choir meeting to discuss important dates, fees, uniforms, etc. Our voice lesson teacher will be speaking regarding voices lessons. We will be serving DELICIOUS CAKE as an incentive to attend!

Choir Handbook –

Your student will be given a Handbook Acknowledgement From for you and your student to sign. Please review the handbook (on our website here), sign and return the acknowledgement form to your child for them to return back to choir by Friday, August 24th. We will be going over it in our parent meeting.

All Region Honor Choir Auditions – (7th & 8th Grade Only)

Saturday, October 20th at Briarhill Middle School

The All-Region Choir is a choir made up of the best 7th and 8th grade singers in the entire region. Students compete against singers from Lewisville ISD, Denton ISD, Northwest ISD, and Lake Dallas ISD for a spot in the All-Region choir. Information will be sent home next week, so please ask your student to go over it with you.

There is also an All Region Prep Camp that is optional for $5.00. This will help the students prepare for the contest. I highly recommend this camp for any student who is serious about auditioning for the Honor Choir. Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9:00 AM ­ 2:00 PM at Flower Mound High School.

Marcus Cluster Concert – (7th & 8th Grade Only)

Thursday, October 16th 7:30 pm at First Baptist Church, Lewisville

The 7th and 8th grade choirs will be going on a field trip during the day on October 16th to rehearse with the Briarhill MS and Downing MS at First Baptist Church, Lewisville. You will need to sign a permission form for them to travel to the church. (Form Coming Home Soon)

6th Grade Demonstration Concert – (6th Grade Only)

Thursday, October 11th at 6:30 pm in the Lamar Cafeteria

Students will show all the parents what they have been working on during the first weeks of choir. This should only last about 30 minutes.
