Initial Teacher Training (ITT)

The St Mark's Teaching School Alliance is linked to Schools Direct and in 2020-21 will be  offering 5 unsalaried places, linked to Sussex and Brighton Universities and the East Sussex Learning Partnership, for primary Key Stage 1 & 2 (general) at its Alliance schools.. The St Mark's Teaching School Alliance prides itself on its 'Career Pathway' and following your School Direct training we hope you would find employment within one of our schools, depending on job availability , or in our local area. You will then find you are supported by a successful NQT programme with internships, moving into early leadership opportunities.
School Direct (unsalaried) programme
Trainees are school based but not employed by their training school. They will also be registered students at the University of Brighton. Sussex or the East Sussex Learning Partnership. The University of Brighton/Sussex/ES Partnership fees for PGCE courses in 2020-21 is £9000. Trainees may be eligible for student finance from the Student Loan Company and may be eligible additionally for ITT bursaries. Successful trainees will be awarded an internationally recognised secondary PGCE (i.e. Qualified Teacher Status and 60 Masters level credits).

Our schools all welcome visits from trainee teachers and although you may be undertaking your practice at a school outside the Alliance we would be pleased to give you a tour of our schools if you contact us on smtsa@st-marks.e-sussex.sch.uk


We have been allocated 5 places for School Direct trainees in 2020-21 and we will include more details of how to apply for these places this term. Our Alliance potentially has more placements available and we will apply for more places should they be released.
