Good Morning Kaler Community,
I know that you've been acutely aware of some issues with unsafe driving during pick up / drop off recently and I wanted to reach out to you about it. The last several weeks have been concerning. The rush for people to get in and out of the lot is dangerous, and doesn't seem to be getting better.
I've watched buses be blocked by cars parking along the sides of 'real' parking areas. Double parking is creating a lack of visibility for kids and their parents trying to move between vehicles to get out, and I've continued to see parents parking in high traffic areas where kids are exiting the school. In particular, parking by the side door of the building.
One other thing I've observed, and I'm unsure of how much can be done to resolve this, is some very aggressive driving as parents are leaving S. Kelsey St. The crossing guard is doing an incredible job and is controlling traffic as best he can, but I have watched parents completely disregard his instruction and nearly plow over kids in the crosswalk.
I know that you've sent messages about this before, and that there is only so much that can be done to enforce considerate driving near the school. I wanted to share with you what I've been seeing as I know that you care about the safety of kids entering and exiting the school just as much as parents do. It's disheartening to see my fellow parents act with so little care for children who aren't their own.
