Student Check-out: Each class at Jeffers visits the library once a week. Students, grades Kindergarten through 4th grades, check out books that are due in one week. Students may renew books the following week, but need to bring books to renew at their library time. Mrs. Jobin reads to all classes after students have finished checking out books. If your child has overdue book(s), reminder slips will be sent home with your child. There are no fines for overdue books.
Lost or damaged books: If your child has lost a book or a book needs replacement because of damage, you will receive a notice with the replacement cost. If after paying for a lost book, you find the book, a refund will be sent to you.
Accelerated Reader (AR) Enterprise: AR is an assessment that determines comprehension of a book after being read. First, students will read a fiction or non-fiction book. Second, students will take a quiz on the computer (can only be taken at school). The quizzes consist of 5, 10, or 20 multiple choice questions. Third, teachers receive information that is intended to assist, motivate reading and monitor progress. Each classroom teacher determines the use of AR in their classroom.
With AR Enterprise, students will have access to all AR quizzes available, over 140,000. This means students are able to read books from other libraries, classroom libraries and their own books. A quick way to check to see if a book has an AR quiz is to go to www.arbookfind.com. You will find a search page to type in the title of the book. There is also an advanced search to look for a book by author, title, or ISBN (International Standard Book Number, which is usually on the back of the book). You can also search for books by collection, i.e., Awards, State Lists, and Librarians’ Picks. Each book description includes book level, interest level, and AR points. This website is a handy tool when looking for books with AR quizzes.
