Dear Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the staff at Beneke Elementary, I would like to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year! Hopefully, our students experienced an exciting summer and are ready to return for the new school year. We are prepared and eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first day of school.

This year, we will continue our theme “Write to Learn.” Students will have opportunities to write in each subject area. The practice of writing can enhance a student’s academic ability through processing, retaining, and retrieving of information. Through writing, students will increase their understanding of complex material, unfamiliar concepts, and subject-specific vocabulary. When writing is embedded throughout the curriculum, students are able to explain and articulate their knowledge. When you visit our school, you will be able to view writing samples displayed outside of each classroom.

 

In addition to our focus on writing, we will continue our excitement surrounding creating a “Love of Reading” culture! Students will visit the library once a week to select a book of interest. We will encourage students to read at every available moment. Avid readers exhibit both advanced literacy development and success across subjects. Please ensure that your child is reading at minimum 30 minutes a night. Also, please visit our Little Library located in the front of the campus – Take a book, Leave a book! 


Last year we implemented CHAMPS; a program geared towards developing a proactive and positive approach to classroom management. Our overall goal was to develop a structure in which students are responsible, motivated, and highly engaged in the learning process. We succeeded! We will continue utilizing the CHAMPS program school-wide!

We will continue EveryChild 2020— a student-centered plan designed to fundamentally transform Spring ISD. The main imperatives are: Reach every student; Excellence in every school; High performance from every employee; Engaged stakeholders in every community; and Opportunities for choice for every family. All students will participate in WIN Time (Whatever is Necessary) from 8:00-8:45 am daily. WIN Time is a school-wide intervention/enrichment block designed to provide support for some students and enhancement for others based on academic performance. Regardless of where your child is academically, we will provide differentiated instruction to better meet the needs of “ALL” students.

Koala Kare will be housed on campus. Students will be supervised by teachers and staff members hired through Koala Kare. To learn more about Koala Kare, visit http://www.koalakare-llc.com/home.html.

Last year students in Spring ISD were able to eat lunch at no cost through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. At the end of the school year, Spring ISDs participation in the CEP program changed. Although this type of funding will end, your child may be eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals. To determine if your family qualifies, you must complete the Free or Reduced-Price Meal Application for the 2016-2017 school year. Forms will be available on campus and online at mealapps.springisd.org. The price of lunch for elementary students is $1.75. Please visit www.springisd.org/nutrition to view upcoming menus, make online payments, and learn more about the meal programs offered across the district.

Breakfast in the classrooms will continue from 7:30-8:00 am daily. In order for students to receive breakfast, they must be in the building by 8:00am. Although breakfast will be served in the classroom, lunch will continue to be served in the cafeteria. Parents are welcome to eat lunch with students Monday-Friday.

It is my firm belief that all children can learn, but not all children learn in exactly the same way. As principal of Beneke Elementary, I am committed to using all the resources available to help your child not only meet the standard, but excel and live up to their highest potential.

We are updating our website daily to keep you informed of upcoming events. We are currently looking for members to join PTO. If you are interested, please download the form from the website under PTO, fill it out, and return it to school with your child. The fee is only $5. PTO stands for Parent-Teacher Organization. The PTO consists of parents and teachers working together to support the efforts of Beneke Elementary. PTO helps out in the classroom and volunteers for various events. If you are interested in volunteering, please check the website for our calendar of events.

· Pre-kindergarten (Afternoon session) 12:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m

Parents are welcome to eat lunch with students daily.

Students may enter the building through the cafeteria doors or through the main entrance after 7:30 am. Staff members are not on duty until 7:30 am. To help us ensure the safety and supervision of our students, please refrain from dropping students off before that time.

Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be considered tardy. Tardy students must be accompanied by an adult and signed in.

All parents/visitors must report directly to the schools office. The office personnel will provide assistance. You must have a license or government issued ID to enter the building and/or check out students. As a rule of thumb, always have your license or government issued ID when you visit the campus.

During dismissal, car riders will be dismissed through the gym doors. Please remain in your vehicles until the students are dismissed. Walkers will be dismissed through the front and side of the school. Daycare students will be dismissed through the front doors once their daycare bus arrives.
