White Elephant 'REUSE' Gift Exchange

Thursday, December 18, 2013 2:45 - 4:00pm in the Library
This event is our final Fall Green Team activity & brings together CURRENT & NEW 4th/5th students interested in joining.
Parents are invited to attend, although the 'exchange' is for the children.
Each student is to bring an item/toy they no longer want that is 'Reusable' wrapped in newspaper like a present.
(Mr. Barnhart will have newspaper available to take home if needed.)
How the Gift Exchange works:  Gifts are placed all together on a table.  Each child receives a numbered ticket.
When their number is drawn, they have a choice to take someone else’s already opened gift or open one from the table.
If your gift is taken, you get to take someone else’s already opened gift or open one from the table.
Due to our limit on time, already opened gifts can only be taken twice in each ‘round’.
Each ‘round’ ends when a gift is opened from the table & a new number is then drawn.

'9th Annual - Hope in Action Conference'
November 19, 2013
Schools participating in the 'Green Partnership Schools' program had special invitation to take part in the activities.
Guy Lee 4th/5th grade classes learned from several 'Green' non-profit organizations in our community.
Nearly all Green Team students participated in the field trip.

'Recycle Bowl Competition - We Won!'
Guy Lee Elementary - 2013 Oregon Champions
Guy Lee Green Team students on Oct. 3rd, voted to enter the 'Keep America Beautiful
Recycle Bowl' Competition.  http://recycle-bowl.org/ Although this was a national competition,
our main focus was to capture the $1,000 prize for First Place in the state of Oregon among registered schools.

There was only one other school to do so!

The competition was during Oct. 21st - Nov. 15th.
The recycling involved was based upon U.S. pounds
how that averages to current school enrollment & certified full-time teachers.
Like many Oregon Green Schools, we've done a lot to REDUCE waste
& our rate reflected this when compared to other schools nationally.
We recycled 790.7 lbs or 1.98 lbs per capita
