Green Team to Show 'FLY AWAY HOME' movie
Feb. 27th & Mar. 6th 2014 Green Team watched this movie to kick-off efforts.
Mr. Barnhart has been in contact with Lane Co. Audubon Society about sponsorship of
Green Team to learn about birds & conservation.
'Audubon Adventures' this year in schools, Sharing Our World with Birds, includes four topics:
Seabirds: Feathered Ocean Travelers (starring Project Puffin)
Hooray for Hummingbirds!
Raptors: The Birds of Prey
Caring for Our Planet: Join in the Action!
Conservation - Birds
Students can read & learn about different types of animals from books, including those endangered.
One aspect of Green Team is to empower children in their ability to make a positive impact in their environment.
They can actually do something 'real' or 'hands-on' & make a difference.
Guy Lee Elementary is situated near a wooded wetlands area south of Guy Lee Park.
In the past, some classes have visited these woods to do nature walks or journaling.
The land is owned by the Springfield School District with no future plans for development.
2014 - After discussion with Ed Naylor, Grounds Dept., Green Team can seek to do some conservation activities.
Some future activities could include:
- Litter Clean-up
- Building Bird Houses
- Providing Bird Feeders
- Native Species Plants
update 2016 - land changed hands to Willamalane Park/Recreation District.
Welcome to Audubon 'birder' Rick A. who is helping us as a valuable resource
with the bird habitat project.
