Ursus Latin School Year Program
Salve! The Ursus Latin School Year Program is a part of Riverbend High School Latin Club. This program serves to introduce elementary students to Greco-Roman language and culture through interactive educational activities. The curriculum is based on the textbook, Minimus. This textbook teaches Latin and English grammar skills along with vocabulary and culture through the exploration of a real Roman family in AD 100. Students from the Latin program at Riverbend typically teach at the end of the elementary school students' day. The program has worked with the 5th grade classes at both Chancellor and Wilderness Elementary Schools.
Ursus Summer Latin Program
This program is an extension of the Ursus Latin Outreach Organization that takes place typically the Monday-Thursday after school in Spotsylvania County is out. It introduces 2nd - 5th grade students to Greco-Roman culture, mythology, and Latin language through various interactive activities. In the past these activities have included presentations from special guests, pottery, mosaics, olympic games, Greek dancing, learning real Latin, mythological plays, an archaeological dig, marching, dressing, and eating like a Roman, and more!
