Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department is a rural volunteer fire department located in Crawford County Pennsylvania.  The department’s early records show that the department dates back to 1900.  The original fire truck was an unknown truck on a 1934 Ford chassis and was housed in the Spartansburg Borough building.   Incorporation as the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department and Relief Association was completed in 1947 but has now been changed to Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department, with the Relief Association under a separate charter. Ambulance Service was added in 1975.

Spartansburg VFD covers approximately 100 square miles with primary response areas in parts of Crawford, Erie and Warren Counties.  It covers all of Spartansburg Borough and Sparta Township with additional partial coverage of Concord, Eldred and Rome Twp.

The department has continued to grow and now has 3 fire engines and a brush truck, as well as an ambulance.  The fire station has evolved also.  In 1999 a new 46” x 110' building was completed.  The original building is now a large social hall used by the community for many events.
