Google Docs was designed to work on desktop and laptop computers. The increase in mobile computing has placed a strain on the function of Google Docs and other web-based applications. Google is scrambling to increase the function and usability of Docs on the iPad and other mobile devices, but it's still not perfect.
The list below is a brief overview of features of Google Docs that do and do not work. Keep in mind that improvements and refinements are being continually made.
Will it work on my iPad?
|Collaborative Editing||Yes, but slightly delayed (5+ seconds)|
|Sharing||Recently added to the mobile interface. A much needed feature.|
|Docs||Mobile view will load when used on iPad. No formatting (bold, italic, etc). Collaborative editing is delayed.|
|Drawing||Not currently available for the iPad.|
|Presentation (view only)||Presentations created in Google Docs look great on the iPad! Students can also use the "view-together" feature to post questions during a presentation.|
|Presentation (editing)||Not available for use on iPad, however, presentations can be created, edited, viewed, and saved by using third party apps such as Quick Office.|
|Spreadsheets||Arguably the best user experience on the ipad when compared with all of the other Docs components.|
