2015-16 School Year Wrap-up

The Saxon Foundation has had a wonderful 2015-16 school year! Thanks to your contributions and lots of volunteer hours, the Foundation has been able to collect and distribute around $8000 this past school year. We love what we are able to do each year and cannot do it without supporters like you.

In addition to our fundraisers, we gathered school supplies for South teachers during the summer to support classrooms throughout this school year (hundreds of dry-erase markers, 1000 pencils, hundreds of spiral notebooks, tissues for every classroom, and much more). We gathered many books during a book drive, receiving donations for classroom libraries and book clubs in Language Arts classes. Foundation volunteers and SSHS students have sorted thousands of books at the Salem Keizer Education Foundation Bazillion Books for Kids and gathered around 500 books!

Donations received from the 2015 Fall Gala and the Spring grant cycle fulfilled teacher requests for field trips benefiting students in World Languages, Sciences, and those interested in Job Corps. Other requests funded the unique Holocaust survivor assembly for the entire freshman class, equipment for the special education classes, materials for English, Spanish and German classes, Physics lab equipment, supplies and training for South’s ASPIRE mentors, equipment for the music programs, help for the end of year MORP (Academic Prom), and more!

Thank you so much for all you have done to help South Salem High School academics! We’ve had such a fantastic 2015; here’s to a stellar 2016!

Mission:
The Saxon Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support academic engagement and achievement in the classroom and in extracurricular programs. Through advocacy and the raising and distribution of funds, the foundation enriches the academic environment at South Salem High School.

Objectives:
To assist teaching staff in maintaining and enhancing the educational environment at South Salem High School by providing funds for projects or other specific needs that otherwise would not be available to staff or students through the regular school budget funding.

To encourage community involvement in South Salem High School's educational programs by providing ways for individuals and organizations to share resources with the school and by facilitating cooperative ventures between community groups and the school.

To aid in finding grant and funding sources for specific needs. To advocate for stronger District and State policies to adequately support academic success.

Each year, the Saxon Foundation encourages teachers to submit a grant application for needed items not covered by the School District's budget. Through teacher grants and wish lists, the Saxon Foundation supports the school by funding needed materials, equipment, and other academic opportunities.

Who are we:
Volunteer parents and community members who want to make a difference in our student's education. Come join us and make a difference.
