Session Description:
Get your STEM program rolling with a focus on the design and build of skateboards!  Join us for two hours of hands-on learning and building.  Together, we will learn about important design and equipment considerations in the production of skateboards.  We will work in teams to identify a skateboard design goal, meet a production budget, and then get busy assembling actual skateboards!  Prove your knowledge in a brief post-test and each team will take home their very own skateboard.
Presenter Bio:
Growing up in Spain, Puerto Rico, and Alabama allowed Lettye Burgtorf to experience many different cultures, languages, and educational practices.  Different parts of each school gave her a well rounded view of how people around the world learn curriculum needed for a successful life after high school.  There were challenges she overcame through patience, love, and understanding.  Lettye attended Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where she received a BA in Art with a minor in Biology and Spanish.  Her life was an adventure where focusing on the positive prepared her to naturally choose to homeschool both of her girls.  Moving her family to Rosemary Beach brought homeschooling to another level.  Other children became interested in homeschooling and before long, Lettye's daughters, Hunter and Hannah, and she were joined in the learning process with other students in the area.  This inspired her to create Ohana Institute, a school where everyone is loved and accepted and given the freedom to be who they are.
