"Extension Grabber" - Participants will be challenged to build a device that can transfer a tower of plastic cups to a new location as quickly as possible given several constraints and specific materials. Presenter Bio:
Dee Van Brackel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership. She is a Dayton Regional STEM Fellow and was selected as a recipient of the Dayton Regional STEM Leadership and Service Award in 2016.   A Wittenberg University graduate, she is celebrating her twenty-fifth year of teaching. First as an Intervention Specialist, then one of the first in Bellbrook to incorporate inclusionary practices. Five years later, she became a third-grade teacher focusing on hands-on learning. Naturally, she was an early adopter of STEM practices in her classroom. When the opportunity to create a K-5 STEM program arose, it was apparent that this would be the perfect fit for the next phase of her successful teaching career. She has created a program from scratch while serving eleven-hundred plus students. Her young engineers know that through the design process, failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of it.
