Magdalena, NM – July 24, 2014. The Magdalena Ranger District will open their personal use firewood season on Friday, August 1, 2014. The season will run through February 2015, weather permitting. The cost for a personal use permit is $10 per cord, with a 2-cord minimum purchase (8 cord maximum).
The District is issuing two types of permits:
· Dead Wood: Any juniper species, piñon pine, ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir and Engelmann spruce may be cut, but cannot be larger than 14 inches in diameter (43 inches around) or less at stump height. Please note that if a tree has any green on it, even one branch, it is considered green.
· Green (Live) Wood: You may cut any green juniper species and piñon pine trees that are 14 inches in diameter (43 inches around) or less at stump height.
Please be aware that cutting of any size of hardwood trees (i.e. oak, cottonwood, sycamore, maple, box elder, walnut etc.) is not permitted with either permit.
