Snehalaya Projects

Supporting over 400 homeless and exploited children in residential homes, proving shelter and vocational training to more than 60 women in distress, educating over 1200 children in slum based Balbhavans, empowering and rehabilitating over 2100 commercial sex workers to lead a better life, providing medical treatment for over 3000 HIV +ve men and women, managing a 24x7 Childline and rescue operations, frequently saving children and women from abuse, facilitating adoption and placement of hundreds of infants into good families - Snehalaya is a place of  vibrant activities that is making a positive difference to peoples lives and the society, every single day. 

Rehabilitation Center

Snehalaya’s Rehabilitation Centre is a home and family for HIV infected women and children, children of prostitutes, rescued minors from the flesh trade and other neglected sections of our society. Currently 280 children and 45 women are sheltered in our Rehabilitation center. Snehalaya is providing good quality education, nutritious and healthy food, proper shelter,  clothing and personality development opportunities for the  children. Above all, Snehalaya is changing their lives with love and affection.



Balbhawans for children in slums 

Balbhawans are unique models of social change for children living in the slums. Snehalaya runs Balbhawans in community halls of slums in Sanjay Nagar, Dashrathnagar, Mukund Nagar, Ramwadi, Bharaskar Nagar and Borkar Nagar areas of Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Activities such as playgroup education, tuitions for older children, health check-up camps, creating awareness about communal harmony, good health, cleanliness. Awareness is built around consequences of bad habits, addictions , child marriages. Almost 1200 children are receiving primary education in this way. 



Childline

Child Line is a 24-hour toll free help line for the children in distress all over the country. In the year 2003, Snehalaya accepted the responsibility of collaboration with National Child Line implemented by the Union Ministry for Women and Child Development. A toll free number "1098" is used by the children and concerned adults to find help round the clock. Ahmednagar Child Line is being recognized as the most well run unit in the country. On an average 250 children in distress from Ahmednagar and surrounding areas seek help from this project everyday. Snehalaya has also been successful in exposing sex scandals and other child exploitation scams with the help of Child Line. 


Snehjyot Mukta (Healthcare in Red Light Areas) 

Snehalaya, through its Snehjyot project, runs dispensaries for sexually exploited women in the red light areas of Ahmednagar, Kopargaon, Shrirampur, Shevgaon and Jamkhed. Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART) is provided for over 1500 HIV infected patients at half the cost of treatment by well-qualified doctors. Besides healthcare, Snehalaya also runs day and night care centers for children of commercial sex workers in these areas. We manage women's small saving groups. We also conduct regular counseling and distributing  contraceptives and regularly rescues minors from red light areas


Community Care Center

Snehalaya started the Community Care Center (CCC) in April 2008 to provide treatment to HIV patients. The Center is a pioneer in HIV patients management in the state. Snehalaya community care center is a 30 bedded hospital, providing free medical services, with quality OPD and IPD facilities for HIV patients. Two Medical Officers and 18 fulltime workers are engaged in providing treatment, nursing, training for home based care, drug adherence counseling, nutrition support, opportunistic infections management to thousands of patients.  


Youth Sensitization Camps

The youth is the strongest force to bring about a change in society. Youth sensitization camps are conducted twice a year by Snehalaya to nurture a sense of social harmony, unity, dignity for labour, obligation towards society and the nation. Almost 500 young boys and girls come together for 5 days. They are also introduced to the problems in slums, rural and red light areas. Discourses, lectures and dialogues by eminent personalities from all walks of life are a part of these youth camps. 




Snehalaya's Center of Hope (I.T Center)

Snehalaya is providing quality computer education to the children from red light areas, slums and rural areas. The center started in August 2009.  This center also conducts courses for personality development and spoken English. About 100 students are benefiting from this center, finding an opportunity for better career and a brighter future
