The Southern Nevada Ale Fermenters Union (SNAFU)

Helping Southern Nevadans Brew Better Beer Since 1989

Congratulations to SNAFU member Mr. Jason Coleman, 2016 SNAFU Winterfest winner!!

Hi!  You found us! As it says above, we are the Southern Nevada Ale Fermenters Union (SNAFU) - the largest homebrewing club in Southern Nevada.

Our mission is to help our members make better beer (Mead and Cider as well) and educate the public about homebrewing and craft beer.

We hold meetings every second Friday of the month at Aces & Ales 3740 S. Nellis Blvd., Las Vegas (directions). Meetings start at around 7:30 PM.

Our meetings are very informal. After taking care of club business, we enjoy each other's company and (of course) homebrew! Don't worry if you don't know anyone at the meeting, w

e’ll welcome you with a homebrew.  This is a great opportunity to get feedback on your beers since we have a number of BJCP judges who will be happy to give you honest feedback on your beer, and ways to improve it.  You can also learn as we all tell our own “Disasters in Homebrewing” stories (admit it, we all have them!).

Educational Opportunities:

We have educational opportunities at other times of the month at the SNAFU “Gauntlets” and other events.  The Gauntlets are a chance to have your homebrew analyzed by BJCP judges without going through the trouble of entering a competition.  It also gives aspiring judges a chance to challenge their senses and command of the English language through practice score sheets.  Each month we’ll cover a different subject relevant to homebrewing that will hopefully enlighten a few members.

Our BJCP Beer Tasting Exam Prep Sessions are held weekly on Sunday afternoons at Aces and Ales, Tenaya (2801 N. Tenaya Way, Las Vegas, NV) at 2 PM.  We ask for a $5 donation to help defer the cost ofthe beer used in training.   Our next class will be May22nd where we'll cover:

                                                                           Category 21 IPAs

SNAFU is sponoring the BJCP Beer Tasting Exam on Saturday, August 27th, 2016 and August 5, 2017.

Competitions:  Winterfest is our annual spring competition, usually held in March.  We also collaborate with our brothers in Northern Nevada, the Washoe Zephy Zymurgists, to sponsor the Nevada State Homebrew Championship each year.   Qualifying brewers from our Winterfest competition and the WZZers Great Basin competition compete for Nevada Homebrewer of the Year and the homebrew clubs of Nevada compete for Nevada Homebrew Club of the Year.

Community:  SNAFU is active in the Las Vegas community, supporting multiple charities through our participation in numerous local beer festivals where we serve our homebrewed products to the appreciative public.  We also promote our club and the beauty of brewing your own beer at these events.
