Freshman Mentor Program Expectations and Goals

  1. Becoming an “Upperclassman Friend” to each of your assigned freshman is your ultimate goal. You are expected to develop and nurture a respectful relationship with your freshman mentee, the freshman classroom advisor and each freshman in your assigned advisory.

  1. Freshman Mentors will meet with their assigned freshman on a weekly basis during advisory.  You will be given leadership training and topics to discuss during each meeting.  

  1. All Freshman Mentors are expected to follow Smithfield High School’s academic code of conduct.  As a result, you are expected to maintain good grades, behave appropriately in and out of school, and abide by all Smithfield High School rules and regulations.  A Freshman Mentor who is assigned in-house suspension or out of school suspension may be dismissed as a Freshman Mentor.  An administrator will determine consequences on a case-by-case basis.

  1. Freshman Mentors are expected to have a good attendance record (including lateness) and be in good academic standing.  Attendance at school (especially during mentor advisory) is required.

  1. Attendance at all monthly Freshman Mentor meetings (during advisory – once a month) throughout the year is required for each Freshman Mentor.  If you neglect to attend any meeting you must:
        a) Report your absence before the meeting if possible to Mrs. Russillo or Mrs. Straus

    b) Be responsible for all information received in the meeting
       c) Pick up all handouts and papers in room 146 or 125 the day following the meeting.  
(Consequences for unauthorized absences will be determined on a case-by-case basis)

     6. Checking your school Gmail account on a regular basis is expected of all mentors. We will email you information periodically.
