A tradition that was started when the troupe was chartered in 2006 is that when students are inducted into our chapter of the International Thespian Society, they are also sorted into one of our five "houses" (similar to the fictional traditions associated with the Harry Potter series). All of the houses were named after Shakespearean characters and there were originally two boy houses (Romeo and Puck) and four girl houses (Cleopatra, Desdemona, Viola, and Portia). Portia house was retired in the early years of the troupe and, in 2017, the troupe overwhelmingly voted to make all five of the remaining houses co-ed. These designations are really just for fun, and are used occasionally in various friendly competitions and formal events.
In 2013, the troupe officers instituted the annual "House Cup." This new tradition assigns points to the various houses throughout the year for everything from spirit competitions at the monthly meetings to the "Thespian Olympics" and "Color Wars." Rather than purchase a trophy, it was decided that we should build our own, and the 4'7" Thespian House Cup was created in the backstage scenery shop.
Below, you will find information about the various houses, as well as the winners of the annual Thespian House Cup.
