Sarah Lorek holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware in Music Education, and continued her study at The Florida State University where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Music Education with a concentration in Choral Conducting. Mrs. Lorek has had the privilege to study with Paul Head, Kevin Fenton, Judy Bowers, Clifford Madsen and Andre Thomas. She is also an active board member of the Maryland Music Educators Association, past president of the Eastern Shore Choral Directors Association and member of MENC and ACDA which are vital resources to all music educators.

Mrs. Lorek spent four years teaching Middle School Chorus at Centreville Middle School in Queen Anne’s County on the Eastern Shore. During that time, the choir membership tripled and her ensembles received Excellent and Superior ratings at both regional and state choral festivals.

For the past twelve years, Ms. Lorek has been teaching at Chopticon High School in St. Mary’s County. She directs five choral ensembles, piano and is the Lead Teacher for the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts at Chopticon High School. Here, her choirs have continued to receive Superior ratings at both regional and state festivals. Recent performances for Chopticon High School include: The Kennedy Center, Riverside Church (NYC), Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championships and the University of Maryland High School Chamber Festival, and, most recently, a performance of the National Anthem at the Washington Wizards basketball game. In 2019, the choral ensembles will be performing in Walt Disney World.

Mrs. Lorek has been both adjudicator and guest clinician for several counties in the State of Maryland. Mrs. Lorek was selected as the 2018 St. Mary’s County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. She lives in California, Maryland with her husband, Edward, and their two daughters Alice (3) and Sophie (1).
