posted Nov 4, 2015, 5:05 PM by Victoria Baumgart

Stanford Math Professor Jo Boaler has been working hard for many years to revolutionise the way people see math. Mrs. Baumgart has taken several courses led by Professor Boaler and has shared much of what she has learned with her students. If you have eight minutes to share please watch this video about how we learn math. It challenges past understandings about math and can help your child to become a more confident math student.

Class Expectations

In our classroom we have two rules: Be Kind and Work Hard. In the first few days of school students will learn what that means and what it looks like. In general, we will focus on building character: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

When you work at being kind your school experience, friendships, and relationships are more positive.

In class we use a behaviour management system that can include a visual clip chart, verbal warnings, and an Action Plan. Students will come to understand that the behaviour management system is a form of corrective feedback, not punishment. The goal becomes learning from mistakes and working hard not to repeat them.

For more serious issues, which are rare, students are sent to the office.  When this happens parents will receive a note, email, or a phone call home to inform them of the situation.
