Dr. Sara Steele is an assistant professor and director of the Child Language Disorders Lab in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Saint Louis University. As a certified speech-language pathologist, Dr. Steele is particularly interested in the clinical application of research. She seeks to understand not only how and why children experience language impairment, but what clinicians can do to help children reach their greatest potential. Her general emphasis is on school-age language disorders and the relationship between spoken and written language ability. Dr. Steele's current research focuses on written word learning ability and effective vocabulary interventions in children with language impairment. She is conducting research in elementary and middle schools within the city of St. Louis.
