Important announcement: Free NYT online access to SLU students

posted Feb 11, 2013, 8:24 PM by sworley3@slu.edu

We are proud to announce a new service being provided to all SLU students. This year your Student Government Association has been hard at work to provide online access to the New York Times as a part of the Billiken Readership Program.

What does this new service provide?

  • 24 hours of digital access to The New York Times, including archives
  • Can be accessed from anywhere on any device
  • Access to the NYTimes app for Windows Phone, iPhone, an Android-powered phones
  • NYTimes app for iPad, plus the Collection app for iPad and the NYTimes app for the Chrome Web Store
  • Passes do not include e-reader editions, Premium Crosswords or The New York Times Crosswords apps
How can you access this service? Easy!
  1. Visit NYTimes.com/Passes and create a free account. You must register online using your SLU email address with the @SLU.EDU domain, as this service is only for SLU students. NOTE: Students must create a new account if they already have one.
  2. Verify your email address and account. Once you create your account, you must verify your email. Be sure to check your inbox or spam folder for the link. Once you receive it, click the link to begin.
  3. Once you have registered and verified your email address, claim your pass, and begin your 24 hours of access to the New York Times. A limited number of passes are available for each 24-hour period, so if all passes have been claimed, please check back later or the following day. Once you have logged in and begun your session, your pass will expire in 24 hours. During the 24 hours of access, you must be logged in to the NYTimes.com account with which you activated your pass. If, during your session, you log out of your account or if you visit NYTimes.com on a device where you are not logged in, simply log in to your account to continue enjoying unlimited access. Once your pass expires, or one opens up, you will have to log back in and claim it. If not or there are none available, please check again for an available pass.
This service is a free benefit of the SLU Billiken Readership Program provided by SGA. Each student pays a $2.50 fee each semester which provides access to The New York Times, USA Today, and The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. These can be picked up at any of the on-campus locations Monday through Friday. Simply swipe your student ID at the kiosk and pick up any of the publications!
