Elizabeth Sweeny Block

I joined the Department of Theological Studies at Saint Louis University in August 2014. My area of specialization is Christian Ethics, with particular interests in fundamental moral theology, moral anthropology, virtue ethics, feminist theological ethics, and technology and ethics. My work is driven by the question, "What does it mean to be human?," and I believe that theological resources can offer us rich answers to this question. My dissertation focused on conscience as a virtue, and I am currently working on my first book on conscience.

I have a B.A. in Psychology and Theology from Georgetown University, an M.T.S. from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and a Ph.D. in Religious Ethics from The University of Chicago.

Prior to joining the Department of Theological Studies at SLU, I taught theology courses and the sophomore honors seminar at Dominican University in River Forest, IL.

Having lived in New York, Washington, DC, Atlanta, and Chicago, I am now happy to call St. Louis home!
