Farley's Soph Assignments 2016

Update Website, backup to Server, Student Choice Awards

posted May 30, 2016, 2:17 PM by Tony Farley   [ updated Jun 2, 2016, 12:08 PM ]

Your website is your final. It will be worth 100 points.

Your website should show all your video assignments, photo assignments, flash assignments, etc. Post and write a short paragraph about each assignment.

1. Update what shows on your home page. The gadgets that you put there were from the beginning of the year. It's time to add new gadgets showing your most recent work and push the old work down or over to the right.

Use Insert > Recent Posts to add new Recent Post gadgets to your home page. Be sure to select to include thumbnails. Also, title your gadget.

Use Command-shift-4 to make a screenshot of videos and post them to your page.

2. All gadgets should show images as well as the text written in the post. If your posts are missing images, take a screenshot of the video (command-shift-4 and drag a selection) and post this screenshot to the post.  Katya's site below looks good and has recent work showing. The videos and effects posts need images though.

3. Also, remember to write something about what you learned, what you did, and what is in the video for each post. All assignments need this to get 10 out of 10.

4. Backup: Drag your home folder to your folder on the server. This will take a long time, so do it some time before the end of the year. Do this in Hargrave's as well. Be sure to rename it or put it in a folder you created to keep things organized.

All computers will be wiped completely clean over Summer!

Turning in Animation and Effects Project

posted May 5, 2016, 8:11 AM by Tony Farley   [ updated May 26, 2016, 8:59 AM ]

To turn your project in:

1. In Final Cut, File > Share > Master File. Be sure to test the settings and set the compression to h.264.

2. Name your file with the proper naming convention: tfarley_phargrave_stobin_title of work
The first name should be the person who edited it, the second and third are the others who worked on it with you.

3. Drop it into the Effects folder in _2016 SLAMMY's. This is a dropbox, so you won't be able to see any files in there.

4. Fill out the form linked here.

Deadline May 27th 4pm

The SLAMMYS are coming, and one group of 3 Sophomores will win for Animation and Effects because it is a Sophomore only project!

In groups of 3 or less, create a short story that has actors green screened into scene that you have drawn in Flash as well as animated characters or objects into a video.

You can use each other's shots, animations, and backgrounds but each person in your group must edit their own video. Shoot for 1-3 minutes.

Your story can have many more shots, but you must have at least these shots:

1. Greenscreen live characters and a drawn foreground element composited into a drawn background.
2. Animated character composited into a video shot.

Some Examples:

This one shows animated characters composited into video shots but does not have green screen shots in a drawn background

Website Crit

Go to at least 8 sophomore websites whose name is near you. 4 above and 4 below. If your name is near the bottom, go to the top. If you are near the top, go to the bottom.

On each site, leave a thoughtful complement (not "good job," you have to tell them what is good about it and why) and one suggestion for how they can make their site or post better. You have to go into a post to find the place to leave a comment.  If something is missing (like their Prezi!) or something needs to be done on their homepage, let them know on one of their posts.

Find two Senior websites with last names around the same first letter of your last name and leave a thoughtful complement and a suggestion.

Start Building Your Prezi

1. Go to www.prezi.com and sign up for an account.

2. Start a new Prezi and either choose a template or don't. The templates are pre-made.

3. Add a "circle" for each character in Macbeth.

4. Drag your images into the circle, put the name of the character somewhere, and put your quote for that character in text.

Remember that you need to record audio for each character. Do this sooner rather than later.

Recording Quotes and Reflections

This will be a long process but the sooner you do it the better because everyone else waits 'till the last minute and then there are problems.

1. Your headsets have a mic! You just need to plug the microphone connection into the little silver USB converter, then set your audio input settings to USB Device. Try it out!

2. You can use the sound rooms. Any time. We will reserver the sound rooms for you during lunch and after school for the duration of this project. If no sophs are taking advantage of this in the first 15 min. we will give the rooms to others.

3. I'll set up microphones in the control room computers as well. You can use those any time.

SAVE EVERYTHING TO THE SERVER!!!

Get this part done and don't be part of the rush at the end. You won't get any sympathy from me.

When you successfully get through the Intro to Computer Science course, Take a screenshot that proves it and put it on your website on a Coding Page along with a short description of what you learned and how you felt about it.

Extra Credit: For each future land you get through you will get 50 points extra credit.  That's five assignments worth of credit. Put the proof on your website.
