Dear 3rd Grade Students & Parents,

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year!  I am excited to work with you and enjoy the fun personalities of your children.

One of my favorite attributes of Skagway is the involvement and caring that parents exhibit in their child’s education.  Education is threefold.  We need teachers to teach the curriculum, students engaged in learning, and parents reinforcing learning at home by helping students practice the concepts they have been taught.  This especially applies to reading. Students need to read nightly between 20 to 30 minutes.  Like anything in life, you need to practice to improve.  Another area that is essential for their future skills in math is memorization of their multiplication and addition facts.  Memorization of their facts is essential for higher level math.   If I can have your support in these two areas, reading nightly and memorizing math facts, your child will be armed with skills to prepare him/her for their future.

Please make sure your child knows where they are going after school and who is picking them up.  Students experience anxiety at the end of the day if they are insecure about their after school routine.  Please help make the after school transition go smoothly.

I am very excited for this school year.  I know we will have a wonderful year.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  My cell phone number is  (907) 612-0079 or my email is loutcalt@skagwayschool.org

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lillian Outcalt
