Welcome to Preschool

Dear Preschool Parents,

Welcome to an exciting new year of Preschool at Skagway School! My name is Michaela Stidham (Ms. Michaela) and I am thrilled to be your child’s Preschool Teacher this year! Kortney Rupprecht (Ms. Kortney) will be joining me as the 4-year-old Preschool Aide, and as the 3-year-old Preschool Teacher. We look forward to getting to know each child as we grow together this year.

Our class will provide each child with a safe and loving learning environment. Each day will be filled with fun and exciting adventures to help your child develop academically and socially. Here are some important dates and information to get us started on the right track.

Important Dates:

Preschool Starts:

Thursday, August 20th, 9:30 am.

Back To School BBQ:

Thursday, August 27th, 5:30-7:30pm.

Supplies and Snack Money

A snack program is provided to the students at a cost of $20 per quarter. Please bring in cash or check for this amount, make checks payable to Skagway School. Please let us know of any food allergies/restrictions. The snacks in this program are truly delicious and nutritious!

Here is a reminder school supply list for items your preschool student will need this year:

  • Pocket Folder- to take home completed work and communications home

  • Glue sticks

  • Gym shoes (clean, non-marking, to stay in your locker at school)

  • Extra set of clothes

  • Small backpack that fits in their locker

Our Daily Schedule

You are welcome to come in any time and see what exciting projects and activities we are doing here at school. This is a rough schedule of what we will be doing on a day to day basis. Be aware this schedule may change as we start the year and get settled into a routine that works best for everyone.

9:30 - 9:45

Welcome and Center Exploration

Circle Time/Math Calendar

P.E. or Outside Recess (depending on weather)

Curriculum and Assessment

Throughout the year, we will be using the Teaching Strategies GOLD Objectives for Development and Learning to track each student’s progress in the following areas:

  • Social-Emotional

  • Physical

  • Language

  • Cognitive

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Science and Technology

  • Social Studies

  • The Arts

The Objectives outlined through Teaching Strategies GOLD align with the State of Alaska Early Learning Guidelines and will help ensure that your child will be on track and ready for kindergarten as they complete the preschool program.
