Preschool Update 9/17

Hello Preschool Parents and Family,

First of all, thank you to all who came to the Open House and Ice Cream Social last Thursday. It was quite the party and I enjoyed getting to know all of you. I hope it gave you some insight as to what we do here at Preschool.

Today, your preschooler should have a very full back pack! Please look for these things that were sent home:

Scholastic Reading Club Catalogues
A wonderful way to get books for your kids for cheap! The easiest way to order is online. Go to scholastic.com/readingclub and enter the Class Activation Code:
PCXNR
Then search by item number, add to cart, and pay by debit or credit card.
Please have your orders in by Monday, October 5, and they will be shipped to the school. Because of where we live, it could take several weeks to get our order, so hopefully we'll get it before Halloween, but I can't guarantee it.

Library Books
Our class went to the library for the first time this year and visited our school librarian Mrs. Crouch! They all checked out a book, which are due by next Thursday. We will be going to the library every Thursday from 11:00 - 11:30.

Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine
This came in with our Scholastic Reading Club, so I thought you all might enjoy it!

Other highlights of what we've been doing in class:
  • We met a cute puppy (a puppet) who is helping our class learn how to stay in control, share with others, and use kind words to ask for things. This is part of the Second Step Program, a program that teaches Social-Emotional Skills. We will be getting hearts to put in a jar when Ms. Michaela or Ms. Kortney sees us doing something very kind or helpful. Then, at the end of the day, we can see how many hearts we got!
  • We worked on writing our names with our name folders, and spelled out our names with pieces of pipe-cleaners.
  • We have been having some really fun and fantastic P.E. classes with the kindergarten class and Mrs. Caposey (the kindergarten teacher)
  • We played with musical instruments, and thought about the difference between fast and slow (tempo). We made the musical instruments sound fast like some animals (bee, hummingbird) or slow (whale, elephant, sloth).
  • We talked about our letter of the week last week (L) and this week (F). Every day we talk about the name of the letter, how to write the letter, what sound the letter makes, and words that start with the letter.
All this and more, all before noon!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful rest of your week!

Smiles and Laughter,
Ms. Michaela and Ms. Kortney
