What a great first week it has been here at Preschool! I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of your wonderful and unique preschoolers. Here are a few dates and reminders, as well as a recap about what we've been doing this week.

Snack Money
If you haven't already, please bring in snack money. It's $30 for the quarter, or $120 for the year. Bring cash or make checks payable to Skagway School.

Permission Slips
I am going to be asking you to sign a generic permission slip for all preschool students, so that we can take class trips to the library, the recreation center, etc. This was a part of the registration packet for grades K and up, but the office has informed me that it was not done for the majority of preschool. I'll begin by having a clip-board at the Back to School BBQ, then target anyone I missed. This way, the form doesn't have to travel home and come back (I know this can be hard with the little ones.)

Back to School BBQ
Thursday, August 27th (tomorrow), 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Stop by, have a burger, say hi! I will have permission slips for the year for you to sign.

Open House and Ice Cream Social
Thursday, September 10th, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
I scream, you scream, we all scream for . . . a great school year! 30 minute information/question and answer sessions will be given by the teachers in their classrooms, followed by ICE CREAM!
Pre-K through 2nd: 5:30-6:00 Open House, ice cream following
3rd-6th: 6:00-6:30 Open House, ice cream following

7th-12th: 6:30-7:00 Open House, ice cream following

What Have We Been Doing in Preschool?
We have been learning the rules and routines of preschool, as well as beginning some fantastic projects to help us learn! Here are some highlights of some of the things we've been doing:
  • We went to a school wide assembly and met some of the older kids and all of the adults that work at the school.
  • We went on a class walk around the perimeter of the school property and talked about living things we saw along the way.
  • We started a Fall Class Mural that will hang in the hallway for the whole school to see!
  • We sponge painted fall leaves for the tree on the mural.
  • We met a cool new friend named Mat Man, and used lines and curves to put him together. (This is a part of the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, it teaches about lines, curves, body parts and number/shape concepts.)
  • We played Freeze Dance!
  • We kicked soccer balls on the field and learned how to make a goal.
  • We started to make our own Mat Man to hang on the wall in the classroom. We'll take them home next week after everyone has had a chance to admire them in the classroom.
  • We learned about different jobs in the classroom and how we are going to take turns doing each job.
All this and more before noon! What a great time learning!

Of course, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
